Research and Academic Pursuits
Mr. Pittman has an extensive research and academic background with a focus on human-computer interaction, user interface design principles, and information sciences. Beginning with his academic pursuits, R.J. has developed several early user interface prototypes for WAIS and WWW graphical user interfaces at U of M and at Stanford’s HCI/PCD research group, producing some of the first GUI’s for the world wide web in 1992, pre-Mosaic and Netscape. He has also collaborated with the faculty and staff of Stanford University’s SUL/AIR library and information sciences group for the past five years, working closely with the Ida M. Green University Librarian, Director of Academic Information Resources, Publisher of HighWire Press, and Publisher of the Stanford University Press on information retrieval, web and library search, and information sciences initiatives and new research and development.
Mr. Pittman has also co-authored and edited several U.S. patents in the field of information retrieval, user interface design, information interfaces, and graph theory.
Mr. Pittman has assembled an esteemed research and technology advisory panel that includes several notable pioneers in the field: John Seely Brown, Paul Saffo, Michael Keller, Stewart Brand, Jean-Louis Gassee, John Kao, Kevin Kelly, Peter Senge, and Dr. David Thornburg among others.
